A model describing the formation of asymmetric membranes by immersion precipitation is presented. The model is used to predict the type of liquid-liquid phase separation (instantaneous or delayed) that occurs when polysulfone-N,N-dimethylacetamide-2-propanol casting solutions are immersed in a gelation bath.
