In this study, the absorption spectra of LbNO, prepared from the leghemoglobin isolated from pea and cowpea nodules, were compared with the spectrum of LbNO prepared from soybean leghemoglobin. In addition, the rates of formation of LbNO and of oxidation of leghemoglobin were measured in nodules of pea and cowpea plants supplied with nitrate. Further, kinetic studies of the formation of LbNO were conducted to investigate the variation in rates of formation of LbNO in nodules of various legumes
