We report on the formation of dark discrete solitons in a nonlinear periodic system consisting of evanescently coupled channel waveguides in defocusing lithium niobate. Localized nonlinear dark modes displaying a phase jump in the center that is located either on-channel (mode A) or in-between channels (mode B) are formed, which is to our knowledge the first experimental observation of mode B. By numerical simulations we find that the saturable nature of the nonlinearity is responsible for the…

Formation of higher-band dark gap solitons in one dimensional waveguide arrays.

TLDR
The formation of spatial dark gap solitons in higher bands in one-dimensional waveguide arrays possessing a saturable defocusing nonlinearity is observed and the modulation of refractive index induced by the soliton formation is demonstrated.

Gap and dark solitons in discrete photorefractive media with intensity-resonant nonlinearity

Light propagation in one-dimensional nonlinear waveguide arrays with self-defocusing intensity-resonant nonlinearity is investigated theoretically. We study thoroughly conditions for existence and

Dark lattice solitons in one-dimensional waveguide arrays with defocusing saturable nonlinearity and alternating couplings

AbstractIn the present work, we examine “binary” waveguide arrays, where the coupling between adjacent sites alternates between two distinct values C1 and C2 and a saturable nonlinearity is present

Dark and bright blocker soliton interaction in defocusing waveguide arrays.

TLDR
The interaction of an optical probe beam with both bright and dark blocker solitons formed with low optical light power in a saturable defocusing waveguide array in photorefractive lithium niobate is experimentally demonstrated.

Dynamics of dark solitons localized at structural defect in one-dimensional photonic lattices with defocusing saturable nonlinearity

We investigated the influence of the structural defect placed inside uniform photonic lattice on existence and dynamics of dark spatially localized defect modes. Depending on the strength of the

Spatial storage of discrete dark solitons

The interaction between a mobile discrete dark soliton (DDS) and impurities in one-dimensional nonlinear (Kerr) photonic lattices is studied. We found that the scattering is an inelastic process

Bright discrete solitons in spatially modulated DNLS systems

In the present work, we revisit the highly active research area of inhomogeneously nonlinear defocusing media and consider the existence, spectral stability and nonlinear dynamics of bright solitary

Nonlinear Effects in One-Dimensional Photonic Lattices

Optical waves propagating in photonic periodic structures are known to exhibit a fundamentally different behavior when compared to their homogeneous counterparts in bulk materials. In such systems
