This article introduces a novel approach for the analysis of the dynamics of reasoning processes and explores its applicability for the reasoning pattern called reasoning by assumption. More specifically, for a case study in the domain of a Master Mind game, it is shown how empirical human reasoning traces can be formalized and automatically analyzed against dynamic properties they fulfill. To this end, for the pattern of reasoning by assumption a variety of dynamic properties have been…
Requirements Analysis of an Agent's Reasoning Capability
TLDR
It is shown for this type of reasoning how relevant dynamic properties at different levels of aggregation can be identified as requirements that characterize the reasoning capability.
A formal method to analyse human reasoning and interpretation in incident management
TLDR
Empirical and simulated reasoning traces have been analysed by comparing them and by automatically checking their properties and this claim is tested against the empirical material of human reasoning during critical situations (incident management).
Specification and Verification of Dynamics in Cognitive Agent Models
TLDR
This paper presents the predicate logical temporal trace language (TTL) for the formal specification and analysis of dynamic properties and supports the specification of both qualitative and quantitative aspects, and therefore subsumes specification languages based on differential equations.
Specification and Verification of Dynamics in Agent Models
TLDR
The predicate logical Temporal Trace Language (TTL) is presented, which supports the specification of both qualitative and quantitative aspects, and therefore subsumes specification languages based on differential equations and qualitative, logical approaches.
Formal analysis of design process dynamics
TLDR
The paper shows that the analysis at the level of a design process as a whole and at subprocesses thereof is precise enough to allow for automatic simulation.
A specification-aware modeling of mental model theory for syllogistic reasoning
TLDR
This study aims to bridge the gap between cognitive theory and its computational implementation, focus- ing on a case of mental model theory on human reasoning using a mathematics-based and statically-typed programming language (Haskell).
Model-Based Default Refinement of Partial Information within an Ambient Agent
TLDR
A generic model-based default reasoning method that allows the use of software tools to determine the different default extensions that form the possible interpretations of the ambient agent's interpretation of the available information.
Artificial Intelligence Methods for Ambient Intelligence at the European Conference on Ambient Intelligence
TLDR
This work addresses inferring the intention of a team of users during a meeting within a smart multiple display environment and the system decision process – what information to present on which display – on the strategy generation level.

SIMULATION AND ANALYSIS OF CONTROLLED MULTI-REPRESENTATIONAL REASONING PROCESSES
TLDR
A simulation model and a formal analysis method are presented for the dynamics of a controlled reasoning process in which multiple representations play a role and reasoning strategies to navigate through the space of possible reasoning states are modeled explicitly, and simulated.
Analysis of the Dynamics of Reasoning Using Multiple Representations
TLDR
A formal analysis method for the dynamics of reasoning is presented and illustrated by an example reasoning pattern involving geometric and arithmetic representations, which is analysed and characterised in terms of a set of dynamic properties.
A comparison of languages which operationalize and formalize KADS models of expertise
TLDR
This paper describes eight formal languages for KADS models of expertise, and compares these languages with respect to their modelling primitives, their semantics, their implementations and their applications.
Supporting the analyst when reasoning on requirements specifications for real-time and distributed systems
TLDR
A toolset for assisting the analyst in his/her task of analysing a requirements specification and providing automated and intuitive support for exploring the specifications and gaining an initial understanding of them before it is possible to reason formally about them.
Knowledge in Action: Logical Foundations for Specifying and Implementing Dynamical Systems
TLDR
When I started out as a newly hatched PhD student, one of the first articles I read and understood was Ray Reiter’s classic article on default logic, and I became fascinated by both default logic and, more generally, non-monotonic logics.
The Psychology of Proof: Deductive Reasoning in Human Thinking
In this provocative book, Lance Rips describes a unified theory of natural deductive reasoning and fashions a working model of deduction, with strong experimental support, that is capable of playing

TLDR
A nonmonotonic logical model of this process which defines unique minimal preferred models and eciently simulates a kind of closed-world reasoning of particular interest for human cognition is presented and can be implemented in spreading activation network models.
