OBJECTIVE To develop a mathematical model capable of describing the static and dynamic motion response of the lumbar spine to posteroanterior forces. DESIGN Static, impulsive and oscillatory forces with varying thrust angles and offsets were applied to the model, and the resulting motion responses were compared to experimental data published for spinal mobilization and manipulation of prone-lying subjects.
