The European free-tailed bat (Tadarida teniotis) is the only Palaearctic representative of a mostly tropical family, the Molossidae. It has an extensive geographic range, from Europe and North Africa to China and Japan, but in Europe it is restricted to a broad band along the Mediterranean (Aellen, 1966; Hutson, 1999).
