Follicular growth and kinetics were studied in detail in the ovaries of the Indian mole rat (Bandicota bengalensis) during various stages of the estrous cycle; days 7, 12, 15, 19, and 21 of pregnancy; and day 2 postpartum. The sizes of follicles, oocytes, nuclei, and nucleoli were measured. In all rats, regression coefficients, a, and intercepts, b, were calculated in oocyte/follicle, oocyte nucleus/follicle and oocyte nucleus/oocyte regressions. The oocyte reached its maximum size when the…

Follicular growth and kinetics in the Indian gerbil (Tatera indica) ovary during oestrous cycle
- BiologyJournal of Biosciences
- 2007
The growth of the follicle and oocyte in the Indian gerbil (Tatera indica) was a continuous process and the occurrence of comparatively larger follicles during pro-oestrus and the presence of newly formed corpora lutea at oestrus indicated ovulation in the early Oestrus.
Follicle growth in the ovary of the rabbit after ovulation-inducing application of human chorionic gonadotropin

The growth of tertiary follicles, i.e., the proliferation of cells in the stratum granulosum and in the capillary network of the theca interna, after injection of ovulation-inducing human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), was investigated in the rabbit by means of autoradiographic and morphometric methods and suggests that granulosa cells have a certain regulatory function on capillary growth.

The observed effect of mancozeb on the estrous cycle, follicles and biochemical constituents may be due to imbalance in the hormone or toxic effect.
Movento influences development of granulosa cells and ovarian follicles and FoxO1 and Vnn1 gene expression in BALB/c mice

Exposure to movento significantly reduced the number of follicles and increased apoptosis of granulosa cells leading disruption of the reproductive system.

Currently, indiscriminate use of persistent and toxic rodenticides to control rodent populations has created serious problems such as resistance and environmental contamination, so it becomes necessary to use ecologically safe and biologically active botanical substances that are metabolized and not passed on to the next trophic level, and that interfere with the reproductive potential particularly growth and differentiation of follicles.

During the second half of pregnancy in the hamster, the corpora lutea enter their final growth phase and there are twice as many vesicular follicles as during the first 8 days of pregnancy, correlate closely with pituitary concentrations of FSH and LH during pregnancy and lactation.

The method of compensatory ovulation in the rat involved doubling the number of large follicles which ultimately matured during the estrous cycle and resulted from increased proliferation of smaller follicles in the course of the cycle rather than from decreased follicular atresia.

In the vole, Microtus agrestis, there was no significant change in the number of corpora lutea (cl) during either pregnancy or pseudopregnancy, and there was a good correlation between the presence of healthy cl and smears that indicated progesterone secretion.

Results of hypophysectomy experiments suggested that endogenous LH is sufficient after 5 or 50-80 IU PMS but is subnormal after 10-35 IU, and as an estimate of the amount of endogenous LH released rats were Hypophysectomized at various times and given various doses of HCG.

Injection of 5 IU pregnant mare serum at day 9, followed by HCG at day 12, induced ovulation in all animals and resulted in an average ovulation of 11 eggs, which suggests that the reduced ovulation rate is not due to refractoriness of the ovary but rather to a temporary drop in...

It is concluded that the elevated preovulatory levels of gonadotropins not only induce the ovulation of the mature antral follicles but at the same time recruit the next set of follicles for development during the new cycle.

These experiments, in conjunction with other observations, suggest that the hamster ovary develops approximately 10 large follicles on Day 1 but has an additional 25 follicles in reserve that can be stimulated if increased amounts of FSH are available.
