PURPOSE Extratemporal epilepsy often coincides with cognitive decline, which may be associated with hippocampal dysfunction. Severe hippocampal sclerosis can be detected with conventional neuroimaging in some patients with chronic extrahippocampal epilepsy (so-called dual pathology).
