Mineral evolution is concerned with the timing of mineral occurrences, such as the earliest reported occurrences in the geologic record. Minerals containing essential Li have not been reported from rocks older than ca. 3000 Ma, thus the lithian tourmaline (fluor-elbaite) and mica (lepidolite) assemblage from a pegmatite near Zishineni associated with the ca. 3000 Ma Sinceni Pluton presents unusual interest. Fluor-elbaite (0.75–0.98 F per formula unit) forms green crystals up to 50 mm long…
Mn-bearing purplish-red tourmaline from the Anjanabonoina pegmatite, Madagascar
Abstract A gem-quality purplish-red tourmaline sample of alleged liddicoatitic composition from the Anjanabonoina pegmatite, Madagascar, has been fully characterised using a multi-analytical approach
Geology and Mineral Chemistry of Uranium‐ and Thorium‐bearing Minerals in Rare‐Metal (NYF) Pegmatites of Um Solimate, South Eastern Desert, Egypt
The garnet muscovite granitic pegmatite of Um Solimate, in southern Egypt, represents a promising asset for strategic and economic metals, especially Bi–Ni–Ag–Nb–Ta as well as U and Th. The ore
The Minerals of Lithium
Lithium is rare in the cosmos, but the formation of continental crust has concentrated lithium into economic deposits. The 124 recognized Li mineral species occur largely in four geologic
Metallogeny of lithium through geological time
The intensity of lithium accumulation through geological time has been analyzed. For this purpose we used the data on mineral deposits which have already exploited or potentially are of economic
Lithium mineral evolution and ecology: comparison with boron and beryllium
The idea that the mineralogical diversity now found at or near Earth’s surface was not present for much of the Earth’s history is the essence of mineral evolution, and the geological histories of the

Petrogenesis of Archaean granites in the Barberton region of South Africa as a guide to early crustal evolution
The Barberton region of South Africa is characterized by a broad variety of granite types that range in age from ca. 3.5 Ga to 2.7 Ga and reflect the processes involved in the formation of Archaean
Tourmaline crystal chemistry
Abstract Tourmalines form the most important boron rock-forming minerals on Earth. They belong to the cyclosilicates with a structure that may be regarded as a three-dimensional framework of

Fluor-elbaite, Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3F, a new mineral species of the tourmaline supergroup
Abstract Fluor-elbaite, Na(Li1.5Al1.5)Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3F, is a new mineral of the tourmaline supergroup. It is found in miarolitic cavities in association with quartz, pink muscovite,
Tin mineralization in the Archean Sinceni rare element pegmatite field, Kaapvaal Craton, Swaziland
The Sinceni pegmatite field constitutes a large group of 3.0 Ga granitic pegmatites in the exocontact of the Sinceni pluton in south-central Swaziland. Field relations, age dating, and geochemical
Tsilaisite, NaMn3Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3OH, a new mineral species of the tourmaline supergroup from Grotta d’Oggi, San Pietro in Campo, island of Elba, Italy
Abstract Tsilaisite, NaMn3Al6(Si6O18)(BO3)3(OH)3OH, is a long-expected new mineral of the tourmaline supergroup. It occurs in an aplitic dike of a LCT-type pegmatite body from Grotta d’Oggi, San
Beryllium mineral evolution
Abstract Beryllium is a quintessential upper crustal element, being enriched in the upper crust by a factor of 30 relative to primitive mantle, 2.1 vs. 0.07 ppm. Most of the 112 minerals with Be as
Tetrahedral boron in natural and synthetic HP/UHP tourmaline: Evidence from Raman spectroscopy, EMPA, and single-crystal XRD
Abstract Olenitic tourmaline with high amounts of tetrahedral B (up to 2.53 [4]B pfu) has been synthesized in a piston-cylinder press at 4.0 GPa, 700 °C, and a run duration of 9 days. Crystals are
Chemical and boron-isotope variations in tourmalines from an S-type granite and its source rocks: the Erongo granite and tourmalinites in the Damara Belt, Namibia
Tourmaline is widespread in metapelites and pegmatites from the Neoproterozoic Damara Belt, which form the basement and potential source rocks of the Cretaceous Erongo granite. This study traces the
