A fluctuation relation for heat engines (FRHE) has been derived recently. In the beginning, the system is in contact with the cooler bath. The system is then coupled to the hotter bath and external parameters are changed cyclically, eventually bringing the system back to its initial state, once the coupling with the hot bath is switched off. In this work, we lift the condition of initial thermal equilibrium and derive a new fluctuation relation for the central system (heat engine) being in a…

Exchange fluctuation theorems for a chain of interacting particles in presence of two heat baths
The exchange fluctuation theorem for heat exchanged between two systems at different temperatures, when kept in direct contact, has been investigated by Jarzynski and Wójcik [Phys. Rev. Lett. 92,
Nonequilibrium fluctuations of a quantum heat engine
The thermodynamic properties of quantum heat engines are stochastic owing to the presence of thermal and quantum fluctuations. We here experimentally investigate the efficiency and nonequilibrium
Linear stochastic thermodynamics for periodically driven systems
The theory of linear stochastic thermodynamics is developed for periodically driven systems in contact with a single reservoir. Appropriate thermodynamic forces and fluxes are identified, starting
Relation between fluctuations and efficiency at maximum power for small heat engines
We study the ratio between the variances of work output and heat input, η ( 2 ) , for a class of four-stroke heat engines which covers various typical cycles. Recent studies on the upper and lower

Energetics and performance of a microscopic heat engine based on exact calculations of work and heat distributions
We investigate a microscopic motor based on an externally controlled two-level system. One cycle of the motor operation consists of two strokes. Within each stroke, the two-level system is in contact

Heat fluctuations over a time tau in a nonequilibrium stationary state and in a transient state are studied for a simple system with deterministic and stochastic components and the exact Fourier transform of the distribution of these fluctuations is found.
Fluctuation relation for heat engines
We derive the exact equality, referred to as the fluctuation relation for heat engines (FRHE), that relates statistics of heat extracted from one of the two heat baths and the work per one cycle of a
Stochastic thermodynamics: principles and perspectives
Stochastic thermodynamics provides a framework for describing small systems like colloids or biomolecules driven out of equilibrium but still in contact with a heat bath. Both, a first-law like
Extension of the fluctuation theorem.
An extension of the stationary state fluctuation theorem is derived and gives a much larger ratio of the probabilities of the particle to absorb rather than supply heat.

It is proved that the measure of those phases that generate second law violating phase space trajectories vanishes exponentially with time.
Entropy production along a stochastic trajectory and an integral fluctuation theorem.
The integrated sum of both Delatas(tot) is shown to obey a fluctuation theorem (exp([-Deltas( tot) = 1 for arbitrary initial conditions and arbitrary time-dependent driving over a finite time interval)).
Probability of second law violations in shearing steady states.
An expression for the probability of fluctuations in the shear stress of a fluid in a nonequilibrium steady state far from equilibrium is given and a formula for the ratio that, for a finite time, theShear stress reverse sign is violating the second law of thermodynamics.
Work distribution for the driven harmonic oscillator with time-dependent strength: Exact solution and slow driving
We study the work distribution of a single particle moving in a harmonic oscillator with time-dependent strength. This simple system has a non-Gaussian work distribution with exponential tails. The
