We present a new method for analyzing directed and elliptic flow in heavy-ion collisions. Unlike standard methods, it separates the contribution of flow to azimuthal correlations from contributions due to other effects. The separation relies on a cumulant expansion of multiparticle azimuthal correlations, and includes corrections for detector inefficiencies. This new method allows the measurement of the flow of identified particles in narrow phase-space regions, and can be used in every regime… Expand
Observables for longitudinal flow correlations in heavy-ion collisions
We propose several new observables/correlators, based on correlations between two or more subevents separated in pseudorapidity $\eta$, to study the longitudinal flow fluctuations. We show that theseExpand
Azimuthally sensitive correlations in nucleus-nucleus collisions
We define a set of model-independent observables which generally characterize the azimuthal dependence of two-particle correlations in nucleus-nucleus collisions. We explain how they can be analyzed,Expand
Azimuthal correlations between directed and elliptic flow in heavy ion collisions

Collective phenomena in heavy ion collisions
Collective flow from ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions is an important hadronic observable sensitive to the early stages of system evolution. We have calculated flow components from a tilted,Expand
Isolation of flow and nonflow correlations by two- and four-particle cumulant measurements of azimuthal harmonics in sNN=200GeV Au+Au collisions
A data-driven method was applied to Au+Au collisions at root S-NN = 200 GeV made with the STAR detector at RHIC to isolate pseudorapidity distance Delta eta-dependent and Delta eta-independentExpand
Measures of azimuthal correlations in relativistic heavy ion collisions

Elliptic Flow: A Study of Space-Momentum Correlations In Relativistic Nuclear Collisions
Here I review measurements of v2, the second component in a Fourier decomposition of the azimuthal dependence of particle production relative to the reaction plane in heavy-ion collisions. v2 is anExpand
Characterizing flow fluctuations with moments
We present a complete set of multiparticle correlation observables for ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. These include moments of the distribution of the anisotropic flow in a single harmonic,Expand
Directed flow at RHIC from Lee–Yang zeroes
Abstract Directed flow in ultrarelativistic nucleus–nucleus collisions is analyzed using the event plane from elliptic flow, which reduces the bias from nonflow effects. We combine this method withExpand
