Cell lines that were highly productive for berberine were selected by repeated cloning of small cell aggregates. The berberine content of the highest-producing cell line increased after 4 clonings to 10% dw in comparison to the 3% dw found for the parent line, and the berberine yield was about 1,500 mg/1/14 days. There was no increase in berberine yield after the fifth cloning. Low-producing cell lines also appeared, even as the progeny of a highly productive cell line. We investigated the… Expand
Stimulation of berberine secretion and growth in cell cultures of Thalictrum minus
TLDR
Parallel changes in L-phenylalanine ammonia lyase activity with the rate of berberine synthesis and the inverse relationship between cell growth and berberines synthesis imply that berberined synthesis is stress-related in this cell line. Expand
[Effect of homogeneity on cell growth and anthocyanin biosynthesis in suspension cultures of Vitis vinifera].
TLDR
The effects of elicitor, precursor feeding and light irridiation on biomass and anthocyanin accumulation in suspension cultures of E had been investigated and the results showed that all the variation coefficients were lower than 12% and indicated the importance of homogeneity on stable production in plant cell culture. Expand
Selection of High-Yielding Cell Lines of Tagetes Using Flow Cytometry
TLDR
It is more likely that somaclonal variation will be a source of stable high-producing variants or mutants, especially when additional mutagenic treatments are imposed. Expand
Selection of cell lines for the production of rosmarinic acid from cell suspension cultures of Orthosihon stamineus benth
TLDR
The time of harvesting the plant cells from the culture medium and the geographical source of the original plant material were both found to affect the production of rosmarinic acid (RA) in cell cultures. Expand
STATISTICAL OPTIMIZATION OF SINGLE-CELL PRODUCTION FROM Taxus cuspidata PLANT CELL AGGREGATES
TLDR
The critical parameters affecting the enzymatic isolation of single cells from aggregated Taxus cuspidata plant cell suspensions were optimized using response-surface methodology and factorial central composite design and more than 99% of the isolated cells were viable and suitable for rapid analysis through flow cytometry, thus enabling the collection of population information from cells that accurately represent aggregated suspensions. TLDR
In this review, special attention is paid to FCM as applied to plant cells in the context of plant breeding, and some new and less well‐known uses of it for plants will be discussed. Expand
Variability of azadirachtin inAzarirachta indica (neem) and batch kinetics studies of cell suspension culture
TLDR
These studies provided elite starter culture and associated protocols for cultivation of A. indica plant cell culture in the bioreactor and the effects of different media and illumination conditions on growth and azadirachtin production were studied in shake flask suspension culture. Expand
Effect of gibberellic acid on berberine and tyrosine accumulation in Coptis japonica
TLDR
It is proposed that GA 3 treatment contributes to berberine production by activating primary metabolic steps involved in tyrosine biosynthesis. Expand
Chapter 1 Plant Biotechnology for the Production of Alkaloids: Present Status and Prospects
TLDR
This chapter reviews the state of the art of plant cell biotechnology for the production of commercially important alkaloids and insight into the regulation of secondary metabolism provides clues for increasing production to levels necessary for an industrial process. Expand
Flow Cytometric Identification of Paclitaxel‐Accumulating Subpopulations
TLDR
Although nearly all cells were observed to accumulate paclitaxel in methyl jasmonate‐elicited cell cultures, a high degree of cell‐to‐cell variation was observed in pac litaxel content. Expand
