The principles of atraumatic flexor tendon repair are reviewed. It is noted that tendon repair of the profundus and superficialis tendons-primary or delayed primary-should be carried out in all zones of flexor tendon interruption. Whenever possible, repair of the flexor tendon sheath also seems appropriate.
