Florida is the main producer of grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macf.) in the world. Grapefruits provide not only the traditional nutrients (Carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals), but also phytochemicals such as flavonoids, which are not essential for life, but may provide many health benefits. Flananones are the dominant flavonoids, and account for about 98% of the the total flavonoids in grapefruit. Major flavanones in grapefruit are present as glycosides. In grapefruit, identified…

ASSESSMENT OF FLAVONOIDS CONTENT IN CITRUS JUICES USING A LC / MS METHOD

Functional foods like citrus fruits contain a range of nutrients and phytochemicals like flavonoids that are important for human health. Using a LC/MS method, this study investigates the

Outgoing and potential trends of composition, health benefits, juice production and waste management of the multi-faceted Grapefruit Citrus Χ paradisi: A comprehensive review for maximizing its value

The present review capitalizes on all of the aforementioned aspects in GF and further explore novel aspects of its juice quality presenting the full potential of this valued multi-faceted citrus fruit.

An Overview of Bioactive Flavonoids from Citrus Fruits

Citrus species are one of the world’s popular fruit crops, cultivated all over the world for their economic and nutritional values. Citrus, like other fruits and vegetables, are an important source

Analysis of Citrus Bioflavonoid Content and Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 Inhibitory Potential of Commercially Available Supplements

Citrus bioflavonoids are polyphenolic plant-derived pigments found in high levels in oranges, lemons, grapefruits and other citrus fruits. The three most abundant types of citrus bioflavonoids are

Phytochemical characteristics of citrus peel and effect of conventional and nonconventional processing on phenolic compounds: A review

ABSTRACT Citrus peel is rich in functional ingredients such as essential oils (0.6–1%), fibers (6.30–42.13 g/100 g db), phenols (0.67–19.62 g/100 g db), and vitamin C (0.109–1.150 g/100 g db).

Changes in bitterness, antioxidant activity and total phenolic content of grapefruit juice fermented by Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains

Four strains of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium including L. plantarum 01, L. fermentum D13, L. rhamnosus B01725, and B. bifidum B7.5 exhibiting naringinase production were applied in grapefruit

Variation of flavonoids and furanocoumarins in grapefruit juices: a potential source of variability in grapefruit juice-drug interaction studies.

This study suggests considering concentrations of components with a potential for drug interactions in GFJ-drug interaction studies, as the concentration of potentially contributing compounds may crucially influence the magnitude of observed interaction and impair direct comparison of studies in which different juices have been used.

VARIATIONS IN CONTENT OF ACTIVE INGREDIENTS CAUSING DRUG INTERACTIONS IN GRAPEFRUIT JUICE PRODUCTS SOLD IN CALIFORNIA

Naringin was found to be the most abundant flavonoid in grapefruit Juice products, followed by naringenin and bergapten, and the information gained from this study would be useful in predicting the likelihood of grapefruit juice-drug interactions.
