Low uniformity in illumination across the image plane impairs the ability of a traditional epifluorescence microscope to quantify fluorescence intensities. Two microlens arrays (MLAs) were introduced into the illumination path of two different epifluorescence microscope systems to improve the uniformity of the illumination.
