A designed set of upholstered chairs, differing variously with respect to foam, fabric and the use of an interliner, was subjected to rate of heat release studies using a specially constructed room calorimeter. Although the ease of ignition was found to be influenced by the covering fabric, major prog ress toward reducing fire risk was demonstrated through the use of improved materials such as combustion modified high resiliency foam and melamine modified foam. The presence of an interliner in…
Combustion Characteristics of Polyurethane Foams Covered with Fabrics*—An SPI Research Project
Combustion-modified polyurethane flexible foams can exhibit different flammability characteristics when covered with a fabric than when the foam alone is exposed to the same conditions. Recognizing
Flame retardancy testing and regulation of soft furnishings
Abstract: Over the past three decades, the landscape of soft furnishing-related fires has significantly changed. New fire performance regulations and standards have been mandated to reduce the fire
Flame Retardants in Furniture Foam: Benefits and Risks
The extensive use of chemical flame retardants to meet the California Furniture Flammability Standard Technical Bulletin 117 (TB117) [1] provides an example of the need for consideration of
A review of fire blocking technologies for soft furnishings
Fire barrier fabrics are expected to play an increasingly important role in complying with existing and proposed soft furnishing flammability regulations in the US. The number of commercial fire
Design Fires for Apartment Buildings - Literature Review
The objective of this project is to develop a credible set of design fires for apartment buildings that will be acceptable for use by fire engineers and approving authorities, and lead to greater

    Reviews on environmental health

TLDR
Examination of major uses and known toxic effects of commonly-used organohalogen flame retardants, replacements for those that have been phased out, their combustion by-products, and their effectiveness at reducing fire hazard concludes that flammability regulations can cause greater adverse environmental and health impacts than fire safety benefits.
San Antonio Statement on Brominated and Chlorinated Flame Retardants
TLDR
Waste containing flame retardants with persistent organic pollutant (POP) characteristics, including products and articles, should be disposed of in such a way that the POP content is destroyed or irreversibly transformed so that they do not exhibit the charac-teristics of POPs.
Assessing Pediatric Nurses' Knowledge About Chemical Flame Retardants.
TLDR
Pediatric nurses have a large knowledge deficit related to chemical flame retardants and the data collected from this study will help structure future educational formats for pediatric nurses on chemical Flame retardants to increase their knowledge.
