Phenolic Phytochemicals for Prevention and Treatment of Colorectal Cancer: A Critical Evaluation of In Vivo Studies

The literature on phenolic phytochemicals carrying anti-CRC activity in various in vivo models is reviewed and their molecular basis of action is analyzed to understand the implications of these findings in the future treatment and prevention of CRC.

Colitis-related rat colon carcinogenesis induced by 1-hydroxy-anthraquinone and methylazoxymethanol acetate (Review).

Increased expression in TNF-alpha and IL-1alpha was found in these induced colonic neoplasms, and the expression was more remarkable in colonic mucosa of rats exposed to MAM acetate + 1-HAQ, M AM acetate or 1- HAQ when compared with that in untreated rats.

Anti-inflammatory effects of betaine on AOM/DSS‑induced colon tumorigenesis in ICR male mice.

The findings suggest that betaine is one of the candidates for the prevention of inflammation-associated colon carcinogenesis and anti-inflammation and tumor preventing capacity of betaine on colitis-associated cancer in mice.

The AOM/DSS murine model for the study of colon carcinogenesis: From pathways to diagnosis and therapy studies

Because of its high reproducibility and potency, as well as the simple and affordable mode of application, the AOM/DSS has become an outstanding model for studying colon carcinogenesis and a powerful platform for chemopreventive intervention studies.

Modulation of Colitis-associated Colon Tumorigenesis by Baicalein and Betaine

The current understanding of modulation of colitis-associated colon tumorigenesis by two natural products, baicalein and betaine, which have anti-inflammatory activities are summarized and applicable to the prevention of inflammation-associated Colon carcinogenesis.

Oxidative Stress and Carbonyl Lesions in Ulcerative Colitis and Associated Colorectal Cancer

The current understanding of oxidative stress and carbonyl lesions in the development and progression of UC and CAC is updates and may be exceptionally important in the case of hostcarbonyl defensive system deficit.

INVESTIGATIONS ON THE POTENTIAL OF SERRATIOPEPTIDASE - A PROTEOLYTIC ENZYME, ON ACETIC ACID INDUCED ULCERATIVE COLITIS IN MICE

Intra colonic administration of serratiopeptidase at both doses significantly reduce the disease activity index and also prevented colonic shortening, spleen enlargement, glutathione depletion and lipid peroxidation and nitric oxide production when compared with the colitis control groups.

Fisetin Suppresses Macrophage-Mediated Inflammatory Responses by Blockade of Src and Syk

Results strongly suggest that fisetin can be considered a bioactive immunomodulatory compound with anti-inflammatory properties through suppression of Src and Syk activities.

Fisetin: a dietary antioxidant for health promotion.

The multiple effects of fisetin are described with special emphasis on its anticancer activity as investigated in cell culture and animal models.
