The first law of black hole mechanics, which relates the change of energy to the change of entropy and other conserved charges, has been the main motivation for probing the thermodynamic properties of black holes. In this work, we investigate the thermodynamics of Kerr Taub-NUT AdS black holes. We present geometric Komar definitions for the black hole charges, that by construction satisfy the Smarr formula. Further, by a scaling argument based on Euler’s theorem, we establish the first law for…

Thermodynamics of Taub-NUT and Plebanski solutions

We observe the parallel between the null Killing vector on the horizon and degenerate Killing vectors at both north and south poles in Kerr-Taub-NUT and general Plebanski solutions. This suggests a

CFT duals of Kerr-Taub-NUT and beyond

The duality relating the four-dimensional Kerr-Taub-NUT black hole to a thermal two-dimensional CFT with central charges cL = cR = 12J0 is analyzed in detail, generalizing an argument given recently

Dual charges for AdS spacetimes and the first law of black hole mechanics

We apply the recent derivations of dual charges in asymptotically flat spacetimes to asymptotically locally AdS spacetimes. In contrast to the results in the flat case, in the AdS case with a Dirichlet

Revisiting mass formulae of the four-dimensional Reissner-Nordstr\"{o}m-NUT-AdS solutions in a different metric form

Recently, the so-called “consistent thermodynamics” of the Lorentzian Reissner-Nordstr¨om (RN)-NUT-AdS 4 spacetimes has been pursued by a lot of efforts via different means. Among these attempts, we

The first law of thermodynamics for Kerr–anti-de Sitter black holes

We obtain expressions for the mass and angular momenta of rotating black holes in anti-de Sitter backgrounds in four, five and higher dimensions. We verify explicitly that our expressions satisfy the

Enthalpy and the mechanics of AdS black holes

We present geometric derivations of the Smarr formula for static AdS black holes and an expanded first law that includes variations in the cosmological constant. These two results are further related

Thermodynamics of Kerr-Newman-AdS black holes and conformal field theories

We study the thermodynamics of four-dimensional Kerr-Newman-AdS black holes both in the canonical and the grand-canonical ensemble. The stability conditions are investigated, and the complete phase

Effects of thermal fluctuations on the Kerr–Newman–NUT–AdS black hole

This paper is devoted to studying the impact of thermal fluctuations on thermodynamics of rotating as well as charged anti-de Sitter black holes with the Newman–Unti–Tamburino (NUT) parameter. To

The first law of black hole thermodynamics for Taub-NUT spacetime

This article focuses on the new approach to the nature of a nut parameter $n$, usually treated as a dual charge to the mass. Instead of thinking about it as a gravitational analog of the magnetic

Thermodynamics of Lorentzian Taub-NUT spacetimes

The thermodynamics of the Taub-NUT solution has been predominantly studied in the Euclidean sector, upon imposing the condition for the absence of Misner strings. Such thermodynamics is quite

Topological terms and the Misner string entropy

The method of topological renormalization in anti--de Sitter (AdS) gravity consists in adding to the action a topological term which renders it finite, defining at the same time a well-posed

Misner gravitational charges and variable string strengths

As shown recently Hennigar et al (2019 (arXiv:1903.0866)), consistent thermodynamics of the Lorentzian Taub–NUT solutions with Misner strings present can be formulated provided a new pair of

Rotation and the AdS/CFT correspondence

In asymptotically flat space a rotating black hole cannot be in thermodynamic equilibrium because the thermal radiation would have to be co-rotating faster than light far from the black hole. However

Thermodynamics and phase transitions of NUTty dyons

Picking up the threads on a recent proposal [1], we show how to formulate consistent thermodynamics of Lorentzian Taub-NUT spacetimes in the presence of electric and magnetic charges. Namely, with an
