Oligochaete worms collected in late March and early April 2005 from 3 freshwater biotopes in Syria were surveyed over an 11 wk period for myxosporean parasites (Myxozoa). Three types of novel actinospore stages were identified from 1 host species, Psammoryctides albicola. A hexactinomyxon was found in 6 P. albicola (7.5%) collected from a branch of the River Orontes, north of the city of Hama. A triactinomyxon and an endocapsa were found in single P. albicola specimens from the Al-Thaurah…

Life cycles of three Myxobolus spp. from cyprinid fishes of Lake Balaton, Hungary involve triactinomyxon-type actinospores

TLDR
The life cycles of the above species, just like those of other species with a known life cycle, suggest that most Myxobolus spp.

Molecular and Morphological Characterization of Myxozoan Actinospore Types from a Commercial Catfish Pond in the Mississippi Delta

TLDR
The morphological and molecular data generated from this study will assist in the identification of myxospore counterparts for these actinospore stages and aid in the elucidation of unknown myxozoan life cycles in closed production systems.

Characterisation of sphaeractinomyxon types (Cnidaria: Myxozoa) from marine and freshwater oligochaetes in a Portuguese estuary, with the demise of the endocapsa collective group.

TLDR
Phylogenetic analyses of the SSU rRNA gene reveal the four new types clustering within the monophyletic clade of mugiliform-infecting myxobolids, strengthening the previously proposed involvement of the sphaeractinomyxon collective group in the life cycles of this specific group of myxosporeans.

Description of new types of sphaeractinomyxon actinospores (Myxozoa: Myxosporea) from marine tubificid oligochaetes, with a discussion on the validity of the tetraspora and the endocapsa as actinospore collective group names

Ten new types of sphaeractinomyxon actinospores are morphologically and molecularly described from the coelomic cavity of two marine oligochaete hosts, Limnodriloides agnes (Hrabě, 1967) and

Molecular characterization and morphological aspects of Myxobolus parvus (Myxozoa) from Liza saliens (Mugilidae) off the Turkish Black Sea coasts

TLDR
These data are the first in molecular characterization of M. parvus, its occurrence in lower jaw of leaping mullet along with its infection prevalence values off the Turkish Black Sea coasts.

Classification and Phylogenetics of Myxozoa

TLDR
This chapter provides an updated spore-based taxonomic key that takes into account the recent recognition of the cnidarian origin of myxozoans as well as important revisions at generic, family and suborder levels over the last decade.

Comparison of the Myxobolus fauna of common barbel from Hungary and Iberian barbel from Portugal.

TLDR
Comparative morphological and phylogenetic studies, as well as 18S rDNA sequences, revealed differences between the Myxobolus fauna of the 2 barbel species originating from different geographic regions.

Myxobolus infections of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in Syrian fish farms.

During a survey on Myxobolus infection of pond-cultured common carp in Syria three Myxobolus spp. were found. Myxobolus dispar infected the gill arteries, forming large elongated plasmodia in the

Myxosporean phylogeny and evolution of myxospore morphotypes

TLDR
New phylogenomic and comparative analyses provide corroborating evidence that Myxozoa is Cnidaria and Exploring Conflicting Signals in Phylogenomic and Ribosomal Data Sets.

Seasonal occurrence of actinosporeans (Myxozoa) and oligochaetes (Annelida) at a trout hatchery in Bavaria, Germany

TLDR
A systematic inventory of actinosporeans and oligochaetes conducted over 3 years at a trout fish farm in Bavaria, Germany, allowed the identification of 12 actinospores from five collective groups, nine of which are novel but can be placed within existing collective groups.

Actinosporeans (Myxozoa) from marine oligochaetes of the Great Barrier Reef

TLDR
The new genus Endocapsa is proposed within the family Sphaeractinomyxidae Janiszewska on the basis that mature spores have small valve cell processes and non-protruding polar capsules and was found in H. keenani and H. queenslandicus from Heron Island.

TLDR
Throughout the present study it could not decide which actinosporean represent any of species of myxosporean parasites in the given area which required a series of experiments to develop a model for each myxspore-actinospore life cycle.

Experimental detection of the actinospores of Myxobolus pseudodispar (Myxosporea: Myxobolidae) in oligochaete alternate hosts.

The development of Myxobolus pseudodispar Gorbunova, 1936, an intracellular myxosporean muscle parasite of the roach Rutilus rutilus L., was studied in experimentally infected oligochaetes. In one

Morphological and Phylogenetic Studies of Marine Myxobolus spp. from Mullet in Ichkeul Lake, Tunisia

TLDR
The utility of DNA sequence data is demonstrated in providing more detailed relationships among the Myxobolus species based upon existing morphological taxonomic approaches and is suggested to provide both careful spore descriptions as part of the traditional criteria but also 18S rDNA sequence data that will aid in situations where morphological details may be absent or misleading.

Molecular methods clarify morphometric variation in triactinomyxon spores (Myxozoa) released from different oligochaete hosts

TLDR
The Morphometrical variation exhibited by spores of the triactinomyxon type in this study raises questions about the validity of using morphometrical data to distinguish spore types and suggests that there could be taxonomic redundancy in the diversity of actinosporeans recorded in the literature.
