A new procedure, based on the decomposition of crack-tip fields, is developed to evaluate first and second order fracture mechanics weight functions. The procedure which employs the standard boundary element formulation is applied to the problems of slant edge and central cracks in rectangular sheets. The resulting stress intensity factors are found to be within 1% of alternative accurate solutions.
