Viticulture, one of the most remunerative farming enterprises of India, is seriously affected by leafroll disease, which accounts for 62% of the losses in grape production worldwide due to viral diseases (4). Grapevine leafroll-associated virus 3 and 1 (GLRaV-3 and GLRaV-1) of the family Closteroviridae are the two most common viruses associated with the leafroll disease of grapevine (1). GLRaV-3 was previously confirmed in India through RT-PCR, cloning, and sequencing (2). A survey was…

Evidence of Grapevine leafroll associated virus-1–3, Grapevine fleck virus and Grapevine virus B Occurring in Himachal Pradesh, India

This is the first report of detection of GFkV and GVB in India, known worldwide on grapevine, in symptomatic plants observed in Himachal Pradesh.

CHARACTERIZATION OF GRAPEVINE LEAFROLL-ASSOCIATED VIRUS 4 FROM INDIAN VINEYARDS

This is the first report of the occurrence of GLRaV-4 in Indian vineyards and of recombination in the GLRav-4 genome.

STUDIES ON VIRUS(ES) ASSOCIATED WITH GRAPEVINE LEAFROLL DISEASE IN INDIA

The association of GLRaV-1 and -3 with GLD symptomatic vines of the vineyards of Nashik and Pune regions of India is reported for the first time, and Globally, this was the first such report of incongruent grouping patterns of different isolates of GL RaV-3 based on different genes.

Ampeloviruses Associated with Grapevine Leafroll Disease: A New Group of Viruses in India

The grapevine leafroll disease caused by different ampeloviruses, their geographical distribution, characterization, diversity, management strategies and also discusses about the future course of works to be taken are described.

Evidence of novel genetic variants of Grapevine rupestris stem pitting-associated virus and intra-host diversity in Indian grapevine cultivars

The intra-host diversity exhibiting the presence of genetically distinct variants in the single host and inconsistencies in the placements was observed in their CP-based phylogenetic tree.

Development of immunodiagnostics for the detection of Grapevine leafroll-associated virus 3 (GLRaV-3) in grapevine using in vitro expression and purification of its coat protein gene

This is the first global study wherein the CP of GLRaV-3 was cloned in pET28a(+) expression vector having many advantages over the earlier used expression vectors and will provide a cost-effective way of managing grapevine leafroll disease in Indian sub-continent.

A Century of Plant Virology in India

This book brings out the research findings on plant viruses that were carried out in India during the past more than 100 years and deals with the characterization of the viruses belonging to 22 genera.

Nucleic-Acid Based Techniques for the Fine Diagnosis of Plant Viruses in India

The next generation sequencing (NGS) or deep sequencing, which involves massive parallel sequencing approach followed by bioinformatics analysis, has revolutionized the field of novel virus discovery in India.

Robust Virome Profiling and Whole Genome Reconstruction of Viruses and Viroids Enabled by Use of Available mRNA and sRNA-Seq Datasets in Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.)

The whole genome sequences generated in this study can serve as a resource for reliable indexing of grapevine viruses and viroids in quarantine stations and certification programs.
