(Coleoptera: Lampyridae) in the city of Turin}, author={Malayka Samantha Picchi and Lerina Avolio and Laura Azzani and Orietta Brombin and Giuseppe Camerini}, journal={Journal of Insect Conservation}, year={2013}, volume={17}, pages={797-805} }
Research was carried out in the city of Turin (Northern Italy) in order to assess the suitability of the urban environment for fireflies.The study started in 2007 with an artistic and scientific project promoted by Parco Arte Vivente (PAV—Park of living art). Citizens joining the project recorded 18 areas where they could observe fireflies, which were identified as Luciola italica L. (Coleoptera Lampyridae). All of the 18 areas recorded by citizens were then visited during the summer of 2009…

Short- and mid-wavelength artificial light influences the flash signals of Aquatica ficta fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae)
- Environmental SciencePloS one
- 2018
Benefits of bioluminescent signal plasticity in a “noisy” signaling environment are demonstrated, long wavelength lighting is less likely to impact firefly courtship, and its use in place of broad spectrum white lighting could augment firefly conservation efforts.
Species-Specific Flash Patterns Track the Nocturnal Behavior of Sympatric Taiwanese Fireflies

It was found that capture probability generally decreased as the season advanced, probably because of seasonal changes in detectability and/or firefly behavior, and the daily survival rate of adults decreased over the season and may be related to a seasonal decline in adult body size.
