This paper is devoted to procedures for the finite element modeling of straight beams and rectangular plates treated with a surface damping treatment known as constraining damping layer, which is formed by a film of viscoelastic material inserted between the base structure and a thin metal sheet. It has been demonstrated that this type of treatment is very effective as a means of achieving vibration mitigation in various types of machines and structures.
