In this paper, we present a new approach for fingerprint class ification based on Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) and nonlinear discrimina nt nalysis. Utilizing the Discrete Fourier Transform and directional filters, a relia ble and efficient directional image is constructed from each fingerprint image, and then no nlinear discriminant analysis is applied to the constructed directional images, reducing the dimension dramatically and extracting the discriminant features.
