Bovine herpesvirus glycoprotein C (gC) functions as a major virus attachment protein. Here, two BHV-1 gC-specific epitopes that are specified by complement-dependent neutralizing MAbs are mapped. The BHV-1 gC-specific peptides and MAbs were used to specifically localize continuous epitopes by direct binding to the MAbs and by blocking the Mab reactivity (competitive ELISA) to authentic viral antigen.
