Hexamidine Diisethionate functions as a biocide in cosmetics at concentrations of 0.03% to 0.1% in 38 cosmetic products. Hexamidine functions as a biocide and preservative in cosmetics, but is not in current use in cosmetics, but it is used in over-the-counter (OTC) drug products. Hexamidine was poorly absorbed by human cadaver skin when in water-oil formulations or in a gel that simulated a cosmetic product formulation. Hexamidine Diisethionate was poorly absorbed by the skin of live rats and…

Hexamidine salts – applications in skin health and personal care products

The physicochemical properties of hexamidine diisethionate and the corresponding hydrochloride salt, as well as the effects of HEX on lipid processing enzymes, corneocyte maturity, stratum corneum thickness and transepidermal water loss, are described.

In Vitro Antimicrobial Activity of a New Ophthalmic Solution Containing Hexamidine Diisethionate 0.05% (Keratosept).

Keratosept ophthalmic solution showed in vitro antimicrobial activity and may be a potential candidate for the treatment of staphylococcal and Candida infections of the ocular surface and have some role in antimicrobial prophylaxis before intravitreal injections.

Acanthamoeba Keratitis: an update on amebicidal and cysticidal drug screening methodologies and potential treatment with azole drugs

The existing literature on the effectiveness of various azole antifungal agents for treating Acanthamoeba keratitis is incomplete or contradictory, suggesting the need for a systematic review of all azoles against different pathogenic Acanthameba strains.

Sequence-selective binding to DNA of bis(amidinophenoxy)alkanes related to propamidine and pentamidine.

The present data support the view that the local conformation of the double helix plays a dominant role in the binding reaction and that the capacity of diamidines to recognize AT-rich sequences selectively varies considerably depending on the length of the alkyl chain.

Photoallergy to hexamidine.

This report details the case of an atopic patient showing a photosensitivity caused by a hexamidine solution, the first reported in which UVA was implicated.
