It is a privilege to deliver this lecture in honor of Colin Pittendrigh and I thank President Jay Dunlap and the Society for the kind invitation. Jay suggested that I might recount some of the early days in circadian biology, some of the controversies and personalities, how I got into the field, and some perspectives.
