Alvarez-type cavities are commonly used to reliably accelerate high quality hadron beams. Optimization of their longitudinal field homogeneity is usually accomplished by post-couplers, i.e., additional rods being integrated into the cavity. This paper instead proposes to use the stems that keep the drift tubes for that purpose. As their individual azimuthal orientations do not change the cavity's undisturbed operational mode, they comprise a set of free parameters that can be used to modify…
FINAL DESIGN OF THE FOS ALVAREZ-CAVITY FOR THE UPGRADED UNILAC
The final design describes the First-of-Series (FoS) Alvarez-Cavity-section of the first tank being part of the new post-stripper DTL of the UNILAC. The FoS-cavity has an input energy of 1.358 MeV/u
LLRF Measurements and Cu-plating at the First-of-Series Cavity Section of the Alvarez 2.0 at GSI
The Alvarez 2.0 will replace the existing post-stripper DTL of the GSI UNILAC. Today’s GSI comprises the UNILAC and the synchrotron SIS18 and is going to serve as the injector chain for the Facility
Conceptual design of a drift tube linac for proton therapy
The conceptual design of an Alvarez-type Drift Tube Linac (DTL) for a proton therapy facility is described in this paper. The DTL will accelerate 16 mA proton beams from 3 MeV to 7 MeV. The main
