A population of 4000 Osmia lignaria propinqua Cresson adults (1:1 sex ratio) was released into each of two almond orchards in California where females constructed 9379 cells in sty rofoam, wood, and milk carton nest materials. Wood proved to be most attractive to nesting bees and milk carton nest materials were least attractive. Female dispersal away from release sites prior to nest establishment was quantified (over 50%) and nesting popula tions were monitored throughout the flight season… CONTINUE READING
