Summary - The use of Romanomermisyunanensis for the control of Culicinae mosquitoes was field tested in five Chinese provinces from 1986 to 1995. About 2000-4000/m 2 preparasitic larvae of R. yunanensis were released in ri ce paddies, ponds, and streams. This resulted in parasitism rates of 52.2-96.7 % for native Culex truaeniorhynchus, 35.5-89.5 % for C. quinquefas ciatus, 90.1 % for C. shebbearei, 78.3 % for C. pseudovishnui, and 53.7-92.8 % for C. theileri. In addition, preparasitic larvae…

Tables from this paper

Larvicidal activity of pectolinaringenin from Clerodendrum phlomidis L. against Culex quinquefasciatus Say and Aedes aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae)

The results of this study show that the chloroform extract of C. phlomidis can be used as a potent source and pectolinaringenin as a new natural mosquito larvicidal agent.

Evaluation of Bifenthrin 80 SC, as a wall treatment against Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae), a vector of Wuchereria bancrofti Cobbold, an etiological agent of Human Lymphatic Filariasis

The efficacy of the pyrethroid insecticide Bifenthrin 80 SC as a potential insecticide for treatment of indoor building walls against Cx.

Isolation and identification of mosquito larvicidal compound from Abutilon indicum (Linn.) Sweet

Results of this study show that the petroleum ether extract of A. indicum may be considered as a potent source and β-sitosterol as a new natural mosquito larvicidal agent.

Larvicidal effects of stem and fruits of Duranta repens against the mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus.

The stem and fruits of Duranta repens are very effective natural larvicide and can be useful against Culexquinquefasciatus and the larvae showed comparative tolerance with the increase of their age and time.

Larvicidal and growth inhibitory activities of different plant volatile oils formulation against Anopheles stephensi (Liston) , Culex quinquefasciatus Say and Aedes aegypti (L.)

The volatile oil formulation could be effectively used in vector control programme and recorded maximum prolongation of larval duration compared to III and II instar larvae.

Natural control of the mosquito population viaOdonataand Toxorhynchites

The results from the model show that by using insect predators, a significant reduction of the mosquito population is possible in less than eighty days.

Goniothalamin – a potent mosquito larvicide from Bryonopsis laciniosa L.

Abstract: Goniothalamin isolated from the indigenous plant, Bryonopsis laciniosa L., was highly effective against the larvae of the mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus Say, as a mosquitocide. This is

Toxicity of the Aqueous and Ethanol Extracts of Ginger (Zingiber officinale L.) Rhizome and Henna (Lawsonia inermis L.) Leaves on Mosquitoes (Anopheles and Culex) Larvae

Investigation on natural products to determine and add any products potential as mosquito larvicides showed that, Culex larvae were more susceptible than Anopheles larvae towards all extracts, and the ethanol extract was more potent than the aqueous extract against mosquito’s larvae.

Results of the field surveys conducted during 1984-1991 showed that the two mermithid nematodes occurred in the same habitat such as rice paddies and streams, and a multiple choice host range test indicated that Romanomermis sp.

Thermal tolerance of Romanomermis culicivorax, a nematode parasite of mosquitoes.

A new chromogen ic r eagen t for the detect ion of phenol ic c o m p o u n d s on th inlayer plates is proposed.

Biological control of mosquitoes with mermithids.

Experimental field studies have established the biological control potential of R. culicivorax, but further development and ulilization of this parasite will require a substantial commitlnent of scientific man-years and ftmds.
