The transplantation of fetal-derived hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) may potentially be used to treat hemoglobinopathies, immunodeficiencies, and storage diseases. The levels of donor cell engraftment needed to reconstitute the recipient's hematopoietic system are disease-dependent and remain unknown for most deficiencies.
