BACKGROUND/PURPOSE In congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), it was recently shown that early and late gestational lung underdevelopment is caused by nonmechanical and mechanical factors, respectively. Heart underdevelopment, which might predict lung hypoplasia, is commonly attributed to mechanical factors.
