Until not long ago fetal and perinatal skeletal dysplasias were usually diagnosed post-partum by simple X-ray films, and, rarely by abdominal maternal films taken during pregnancy. Since the advent of ultrasound (US) and more recently MRI, these conditions can and, nowadays are diagnosed in utero, providing parents and their physicians with hints on how to deal with them, most of all for genetic counselling in view of future pregnancies.
