Immune complexes activate cells by cross-linking leukocyte surface Fc(gamma)Rs. Diseases associated with immune complex deposition, such as rheumatoid arthritis, glomerulonephritis, or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, are characterized by compartmentalized monocyte infiltration.
