Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) are crucial for the outcome of Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infection in patients with cystic fibrosis. We compared PMNs and inflammatory cytokines in the lungs and blood from susceptible BALB/c and resistant C3H/HeN mice 1 and 2 days after intratracheal challenge with alginate embedded P. aeruginosa.
