A method for efficient spatial domain filtering, directly in the discrete cosine transform (DCT) domain, is developed and proposed. It consists of using the discrete sine transform (DST) and the DCT for transform-domain processing on the in JPEG basis of the previously derived convolution-multiplication properties of discrete trigonometric transforms. The proposed scheme requires neither zero padding of the input data nor kernel symmetry. It is demonstrated that, in typical applications, the…

TLDR
The proposed method requires a smaller number of multiplications including the typical sparseness of DCT coefficients compared to previous DCT-domain linear filtering methods, which would be appropriate for efficient very large scale integration implementation.
Block DCT filtering using vector processing
TLDR
An efficient and yet very simple filtering method directly in DCT domain for any symmetric, asymmetric, separable, inseparable and one or two dimensional filter.
Image extraction in DCT domain
TLDR
In the proposed technique the extracted images retain quality comparable with that of fully decoded images, and the computing cost and the storage expense incurred by the proposed algorithm are very much lower than the costs of full decompression.
Wavelet transcoding in the block discrete cosine transform space
TLDR
A new technique for transcoding wavelet coefficients to block discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients in the transform domain is proposed, based on simple linear operations like matrix multiplication that makes the algorithm more convenient for efficient hardware implementations.

. Efficient DCT-domain blind measurement and reduction of blocking artifacts
TLDR
The experimental results show that the proposed method of measuring blocking artifacts is effective and stable across a wide variety of images, and the proposed blocking-artifact reduction method exhibits satisfactory performance as compared to other post-processing techniques.

We develop a method for designing discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficient multipliers in order to approximate the operation of two-dimensional (2-D) convolution of an image with a given kernel.
EFFICIENT AND ACCURATE IMPLEMENTATION OF IMAGE SCALING IN THE FREQUENCY DOMAIN
TLDR
This paper demonstrates application of a new methodology to approximate the floating point constants needed to perform scaling down of an image in the frequency domain and is suitable for applications, such as high speed and high resolution color printing, where the visual quality of the resulting scaled image cannot be compromised.

This work describes an alternative approach wherein the compressed stream is processed in the compressed, DCT domain without explicit decompression and spatial domain scaling, so that the output compressed stream corresponds to a down-sampled image and it conforms the standard syntax of 8/spl times/8 blocks.

A fast algorithm is proposed that converts motion compensated compressed video into a sequence of DCT-domain blocks corresponding to the spatial domain blocks of the current frame alone, without prediction based on other frames, i.e., removing the inter-frame element of the compression-decompression.
Adaptive cosine transform coding of images in perceptual domain
