This paper presents a novel approach to fast motion detection in H.264/MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) compressed video streams for IP video surveillance systems. The goal is to develop algorithms which may be useful in a real-life industrial perspective by facilitating the processing of large numbers of video streams on a single server.
