Diphosphate-modified substrates for prenyltransferase were synthesized and examined as substrates for the prenyltransferase reaction. They were dimethylallyl methylenediphosphonate, geranyl methylenediphosphonate, geranyl imidodiphosphate, geranyl phosphosulfate, farnesyl methylenediphosphonate, farnesyl imidodiphosphate, and farnesyl phosphosulfate.
