In practice, any cluster of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) can be modeled or measured as a directional point source if the detector is far enough away from the cluster. We propose a far-zone condition for measuring or modeling propagation of light from an LED array. An equation gives the far-field distance as a function of the LED radiation pattern, array geometry, and number of LEDs. The far field is shorter for high packaging density clusters, and the far field considerably increases with…
Analysis of the far-field region of LEDs.
TLDR
It is found that far-field region considerably depends more on the shape of both lens and chip than all other parameters, and three far-zone conditions for LED light modeling are proposed: theFar-field distance, and for practical purposes the quasi-field and minimum far- field distances.
Near-field and far-field goniophotometry of narrow-beam LED arrays
In lighting calculations and simulations, the emission of a light source is conventionally modeled using the far-field luminous intensity distribution. However, the advent of luminaires including

TLDR
A study of illuminance variation with respect to the distance of an illumination target of a luminaire with LED array and the results demonstrate that the LCI distance remains shorter than the starting distance of the far field (SDFF).
Far-field distance for surface light source with different luminous area.
TLDR
The relative far-field distance for several typical flat and curved surface light sources, such as the round, rectangular, annular, hemispherical, and semi-cylindrical sources are calculated and the classical five times rule is not applicable.

Far-field condition for OLED light sources
Organic light emitting diode (OLED) is a typical surface source with continuous luminous area. It is important to know its far-field condition since most of lighting designs are based on the

LED array: Where does far-field begin?
Any cluster of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) can be modeled as a directional point source if the far-zone condition is met. A general condition is derived for the distance beyond which the far-zone
