The Acalyptratae are a diverse, heterogenous assemblage of dozens of families of "higher flies" in the Schizophora (Diptera). There are ten acalyptrate superfamilies, two of which are reviewed and redefined here at the family-group level: Diopsoidea and Nerioidea.
