In an ordinary quantum field theory, the ‘split property’ implies that the state of the system can be specified independently on a bounded subregion of a Cauchy slice and its complement. This property does not hold for theories of gravity, where observables near the boundary of the Cauchy slice uniquely fix the state on the entire slice. The original formulation of the information paradox explicitly assumed the split property and we follow this assumption to isolate the precise error in Hawking…
Defect extremal surfaces for entanglement negativity
In the time-dependent AdS 3 /BCFT 2 scenarios involving eternal black holes in the lower dimensional effective description, the time evolution of the entanglement negativity through the DES and the island formulae is investigated and the analogues of the Page curves are obtained.
Islands for Entanglement Negativity in Communicating Black Holes
We obtain the holographic entanglement negativity for bipartite mixed states at a finite temperature in baths described by conformal field theories dual to configurations involving two communicating
Modest holography and bulk reconstruction in asymptotically flat spacetimes
In this work we present a “modest” holographic reconstruction of the bulk geometry in asymptotically flat spacetime using the two-point correlators of boundary quantum field theory (QFT) in
Reflected Entropy and Entanglement Negativity for Holographic Moving Mirrors
: We investigate the time evolution of reflected entropy and entanglement negativity for mixed state configurations involving two adjacent and disjoint intervals in the radiation flux of moving mirrors
Matrix Entanglement
In gauge/gravity duality, matrix degrees of freedom on the gauge theory side play important roles for the emergent geometry. In this paper, we discuss how the entanglement on the gravity side can be
Warped Compactifications in Particle Physics, Cosmology and Quantum Gravity
Particle physics has evolved in the past decade through evaluating the consequences of experimental measurements as well as exploiting theoretical tools that permit exploration of new model building
Recovering information in an asymptotically flat spacetime in quantum gravity
: As an extension of arXiv: { 2002.02448, 2008.10740 } we present a physical protocol that a set of observers can use to detect a pure state in the bulk when they are spread across a small cut near I
Trouble in Paradox
: Recent developments in holography have suggested a potential resolution to the black hole information paradox within the context of gravitational effective field theory. We emphasize the non-local
Berry phases, wormholes and factorization in AdS/CFT
For two-dimensional holographic CFTs, we demonstrate the role of Berry phases for relating the non-factorization of the Hilbert space to the presence of wormholes. The wormholes are characterized by
Snowmass White Paper: Quantum Aspects of Black Holes and the Emergence of Spacetime
Black holes provide a window into the microscopic structure of spacetime in quantum gravity. Recently the quantum information contained in Hawking radiation has been calculated, verifying a key

The Holographic Nature of Null Infinity
We argue that, in a theory of quantum gravity in a four dimensional asymptotically flat spacetime, all information about massless excitations can be obtained from an infinitesimal neighbourhood of
Breakdown of Predictability in Gravitational Collapse
The principle of equivalence, which says that gravity couples to the energy-momentum tensor of matter, and the quantum-mechanical requirement that energy should be positive imply that gravity is
The Information paradox: A Pedagogical introduction
The black hole information paradox is a very poorly understood problem. It is often believed that Hawking's argument is not precisely formulated, and a more careful accounting of naturally occurring
Lessons from the information paradox
Information Transfer with a Gravitating Bath
Late-time dominance of entanglement islands plays a critical role in addressing the information paradox for black holes in AdS coupled to an asymptotic non-gravitational bath. A natural question is
Anti-de Sitter space and holography
Recently, it has been proposed by Maldacena that large $N$ limits of certain conformal field theories in $d$ dimensions can be described in terms of supergravity (and string theory) on the product of
Geometric phases distinguish entangled states in wormhole quantum mechanics
We establish a relation between entanglement in simple quantum mechanical qubit systems and in wormhole physics as considered in the context of the AdS/CFT correspondence. We show that in both cases,
Holography from the Wheeler-DeWitt equation
Abstract In a theory of quantum gravity, states can be represented as wavefunctionals that assign an amplitude to a given configuration of matter fields and the metric on a spatial slice. These
Monogamy paradox: A toy model in flat space
In this work, we investigate a toy model in empty flat space which captures essential features of the monogamy paradox for flat space black holes within a clean calculational framework. We formulate
