There is little information available at present regarding the mechanisms of failure of modern metallic radial head implants. Between 1998 and 2008, 44 consecutive patients (47 elbows) underwent removal of a failed metallic radial head replacement. In 13 patients (13 elbows) the initial operation had been undertaken within one week of a fracture of the radial head, at one to six weeks in seven patients (seven elbows) and more than six weeks (mean of 2.5 years (2 to 65 months)) in 22 patients…

Correlation between radiographic findings and clinical failure in monopolar radial head replacement
TLDR
A positive association between radiographic findings and patient symptoms for postoperative complications after radial head arthroplasty is shown.

[Medium term results of unipolar modular radial head arthroplasty].
Radial head fracture : a potentially complex injury
TLDR
Osteolysis of the proximal radius was found in the majority patients with a press-fit prosthesis, without any impact on the clinical outcome, and the exact cause and clinical implications of this osteolysis requires further investigation.
Short- to mid-term results of metallic press-fit radial head arthroplasty in unstable injuries of the elbow.
We assessed the short- to mid-term survival of metallic press-fit radial head prostheses in patients with radial head fractures and acute traumatic instability of the elbow. The medical records of 42…
Radial head prosthesis: results overview
TLDR
The results of this study suggest that the use of prostheses, if well positioned, is a valid solution in the treatment of secondary arthritis and fractures of the radial head with poor prognosis, with good results in the reduction of pain, recovery of movement and improved quality of life.
Radial Head Prosthesis Removal: a Retrospective Case Series of 14 Patients
TLDR
Removal of radial head prosthesis improved function and lessened pain in patients with expected large gain in range of motion after removal in a case series of 14 adult patients from 2007 to 2011.

The functional outcome with metallic radial head implants in the treatment of unstable elbow fractures: a long-term review.
TLDR
It is concluded that a metal radial head prosthesis has select indications and is advocated for use when the radial head cannot be reconstructed in the setting of a clinically unstable elbow.
A comparative study of internal fixation and prosthesis replacement for radial head fractures of Mason type III
TLDR
It is concluded that bipolar radial head prosthesis replacement is better than ORIF in treatment of Mason type III radial head fracture.
Management of Mason type-III radial head fractures with a titanium prosthesis, ligament repair, and early mobilization.
TLDR
The results of treatment of Mason type-III radial head fractures with a monoblock titanium radial head prosthesis and soft-tissue reconstruction are satisfactory and early mobilization of the elbow is important for the restoration of elbow range of motion and function.
Radial head arthroplasty with a modular metal spacer to treat acute traumatic elbow instability.
TLDR
An intentionally loosely placed modular metal radial head prosthesis can help to restore stability in conjunction with repair of other fractures and reattachment of the lateral collateral ligament to the epicondyle in the setting of traumatic elbow instability with a comminuted fracture of the radial head.
Primary replacement of the fractured radial head with a metal prosthesis.
Compression testing of cadaver specimens showed that excision of the radial head allowed proximal radial displacement. The insertion of a metallic radial head restored normal mechanics, while a…
[Recent fractures of the radial head associated with elbow instability treated with floating Judet prosthesis].
TLDR
A retrospective series of floating Judet prosthesis implanted for comminutive fractures of the radial head associated with elbow laxity caused either by dislocation or rupture of the medial collateral ligaments finds these implants are indispensable when the radialHead fracture is associated with elbows instability.
Chronic posttraumatic elbow disorders treated with metallic radial head arthroplasty.
BACKGROUND Metallic radial head arthroplasty is a proven technique for the treatment of complex radial head fractures. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the functional outcomes of a metallic…
Results of delayed excision of the radial head after fracture.
TLDR
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of delayed excision after failure of closed management of fractures of the radial head with some justification for the initial closed treatment of these fractures.
Midterm results with a bipolar radial head prosthesis: radiographic evidence of loosening at the bone-cement interface.
TLDR
Although satisfactory midterm functional results were achieved in thirty-nine of the fifty-one patients, the high prevalence of adverse radiographic changes suggesting periprosthetic osteolysis should alert clinicians to this possible drawback of the use of bipolar radial head prosthesis, especially in young and/or active patients.
