Mortality rates from the Large Bowel Cancer Project are presented with special reference to patients older than 70 years. The in-hospital mortality rate among those who underwent curative resection for colorectal carcinoma was 7%. Unlike long-term prognosis, which is influenced by pathological features, in-hospital mortality is influenced largely by clinical factors.
