Robotics is coming of age: more and more we are developing robots to function outside the controlled environment of the manufacturing oor and the lab. Robots are routinely used to interact physically with the world in places where humans should not, cannot or do not want to physically act. In handling ever more complex environments, we encounter a new class of robotic missions. These consist of deploying the robot to accomplish a few of a great many possible tasks, without knowing in advance…

Structure synthesis on-the-fly in a modular robot
TLDR
A mobile modular robot system that can generate foam to make structural elements and use the foam structures to encapsulate and pick up objects and to modify the environment by blocking a door is described.
Robotic body extension based on Hot Melt Adhesives
TLDR
This paper investigates a novel approach to robotic body extension by employing an unconventional material called Hot Melt Adhesives (HMAs), which can be used for additive fabrication based on a simple robotic manipulator while the established structures can be integrated into the robot's own body to accomplish a task which could not have been achieved otherwise.
