Rachitic changes in the bones and teeth occur in young albino rats as the result of spontaneous disease, possibly of infective origin. This disease is often, but not always, accompanied by an arrest of growth and malnutrition. There is no valid reason for attributing such lesions to the loss of thymic function. In some of the rats showing the disease, an unusual number of mitoses were found in the parathyroid glands, but no evidence of injury to these structures. It has not been found possible… Expand
Status thymico-lymphaticus
TLDR
An orderly necropsy proceedings will segregate the various causes of asphyxia in infants which is by far the commonest cause of sudden death under the age of 2 years and that such studies will re-establish the relationship of enlarged thymus glands, lymphatism, adrenal hypoplasia, and such conditions either isolated or related as veritable and tenable direct and sole causes of death. EXPERIMENTAL RICKETS IN RATS
TLDR
It is shown by x-rays and by histological examinations and by quantitative chemical analysis that added potassium phosphate increased the assimilation and normal deposition of calcium, and it may be the quantitative relationship between the inorganic ions rather than actual deficiency of any one of them which was here the determining factor in the cause or prevention of rickets. A Survey of the Thymus and Its Relation to Lymphocytes and Immune Reactions
TLDR
It is shown that skin homograft rejection is markedly delayed in animals thymectomized shortly after birth, and it is possible that early thymectomy is necessary to produce immunologic incompetence. Expand
Partial Immunological Restoration of Neonatally Thymectomized Rats with Thymus-containing Diffusion Chambers
TLDR
Investigations over the past 18 months of immunological restoration of neonatally thymectomized rats with thymus-containing diffusion chambers show that partial immunological Restoration is achieved but the restored animals are not immunologically normal. Expand
Significance of peroxidase in eosinophils
TLDR
The purpose of this work is to consider, as a working hypothesis, that the function of eosinophils is to produce, store, and transport peroxidase to catalyze oxidations. Expand
Serotonin as a mast cell product
The occurrence of serotonin (43, 334, 493, 536), as well as heparin and histamine (42, 473, 476), in mast cells has been established. Although Parratt and West, 1956, (536) and the investigatorsExpand

Ein Referat, das das bisher Bekannte uber Spatrachitis zusammenfassen soll, kann vollkommen gegen zahlreiche verwandte Krankheiten nicht abgegrenzt werden. Ist es schon unmoglich, gegenuber derExpand

THE EFFECTS OF EARLY EXTIRPATION OF THE THYMUS IN ALBINO RATS
TLDR
It has been shown that white rats may survive complete extirpation of the thymus for at least 131 days, even when the operation is performed within the first two weeks of life, and the relative proportion of lymphocytes in the blood is diminished for the first few weeks after the operation. Expand
