Thermal imaging is used in numerous applications, especially in security, medical and other industry which requires a non-contact temperature measurement. This proposed algorithm improves the thermal image and makes more visible the separation of the sampled object from its background. The extracted image is produced by the following techniques: the pre-processing techniques are the combination of K-means clustering, and inverted Otsu method; canny edge detection and color mapping are used for…

Using Enhanced-Color Mapping Algorithm for Object Boundary Segmentation

TLDR
This proposed algorithm integrates the three significant outputs: the extracted high thermal threshold value from the original thermal image, and the two outputs from the inverted Otsu method which processed by Canny edge detection and color mapping.

Defect detection in thermal image using thresholding technique

This paper proposes a technique to detect defects as depicted in a thermal image. The technique is based on a local neighborhood pixel operation using kernel window 3×3. All pixels within this window

Infrared image segmentation based on Otsu and genetic algorithm

TLDR
A new method for infrared image segmentation based on Otsu and genetic algorithm is proposed and Experimental results show that the method effectively improved the quality of image segmentsation.

A novel face detection algorithm using thermal imaging

TLDR
In this paper, Otsu's thresholding method is used for converting the thermal images into binary form and horizontal projection of the image is calculated to identify the global minimum that helps in identifying height and width of the head region.

Gray Scale Image Segmentation using OTSU Thresholding Optimal Approach

TLDR
This paper implements the Otsu method on MATLAB and shows that both approaches has given almost the same threshold value for segmenting image but the custom approach requires less computations so if this method will be implemented on hardware in an optimized way then custom approach is the best option.

Improved Color Mapping Methods for Multiband Nighttime Image Fusion

TLDR
New color fusion schemes that combine the efficiency and color constancy of the sample-based method with the ability of the statistical method to use the image of a different but somewhat similar scene as a reference image are investigated.

Boundary extraction in thermal images by edge map

TLDR
This work uses edge direction and magnitude, called an edge map, as the main component of the speed function, and results are significantly superior to those obtained using edge magnitude alone.

Computed Tomography Image Enhancement Using Cuckoo Search: A Log Transform Based Approach

TLDR
A CS based approach has superior convergence and fitness values compared to PSO as the CS converge faster that proves the efficacy of the CS based technique and Image Quality Analysis (IQA) justifies the robustness of the proposed enhancement technique.

Application of K-Means clustering in hot spot detection for thermal infrared images

TLDR
The algorithm for thermal infrared image segmentation using K-means Clustering was developed and executed using MATLAB R2015a software and it was proven that K-Means ClUSTering ease the hot spot detection from the thermal images.

Survey over image thresholding techniques and quantitative performance evaluation

TLDR
40 selected thresholding methods from various categories are compared in the context of nondestructive testing applications as well as for document images, and the thresholding algorithms that perform uniformly better over nonde- structive testing and document image applications are identified.
