All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) induces granulocytic differentiation and apoptosis in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) cells, although the detailed mechanisms are not fully understood. We investigated ATRA-induced cellular responses mediated by the transcription factor FOXO3A in APL cells. FOXO3A was constitutively phosphorylated and localized in the cytoplasm in both APL-derived NB4 cells and primary APL cells. Upon treating the cells with ATRA, FOXO3A phosphorylation was reduced and FOXO3A…

- BiologyJournal of cellular biochemistry
- 2013
It is demonstrated that ATRA induction of HOXA‐AS2 suppresses ATRA‐induced apoptosis, possibly through a TRAIL‐mediated pathway, and contributes to the fine‐tuning of apoptosis during ATRA-induced myeloid differentiation in NB4 cells.

Ionizing radiation activates expression of FOXO3a, Fas ligand, and Bim, and induces cell apoptosis.
- BiologyInternational journal of oncology
- 2006
It is shown that ionizing radiation can promote FOXO3a (FKHRL1) transcriptional activity and protein expression level, and induce nuclear translocation of FOXO 3a in Saos2, a p53-null osteosarcoma cell line, and suggest a novel p 53-independent mechanism underlying ionizing Radiation-induced apoptosis in cancer cells.

Mutant AF-2 domain of PML-RARα in retinoic acid-resistant NB4 cells: differentiation induced by RA is triggered directly through PML-RARα and its down-regulation in acute promyelocytic leukemia
- Biology, MedicineLeukemia
- 1997
The data suggest that differentiation of APL by RA is triggered directly through PML-RARα, and is associated with its degradation, and there might be another mechanism of differentiation which does not require the down-regulation of PML -RAR α and the restoration of thePML-staining pattern.
