Follicular Deviation and Acquisition of Ovulatory Capacity in Bovine Follicles1

F follicles acquired ovulatory capacity at about 10 mm, corresponding to about 1 day after the start of follicular deviation, but they required a greater LH dose to induce ovulation compared with larger follicles, suggesting that acquisition of ovulatorycapacity may involve an increased expression of LH receptors on granulosa cells of the dominant follicle.

Follicular function in lactating dairy cows treated with sustained-release bovine somatotropin.

Serum concentrations of bST and insulin-like growth factor I were lowest during saline injections and increased after bST injections, while Peak concentrations of serum FSH were lower and occurred earlier for the cows treated with bST.

Follicle Selection in Cattle: Dynamics of Follicular Fluid Factors During Development of Follicle Dominance1

The results of the two experiments indicated, on a temporal basis, that intrafollicular changes in estradiol and the IGF system, but not in the inhibin/activin system, could account for a reported greater FSH responsiveness by the future dominant follicle than by thefuture subordinate follicles by the beginning of diameter deviation in cattle.
