We calculate the effective potential of a strong magnetic field induced by fermions with anomalous magnetic moments which couple to the electromagnetic field in the form of the Pauli interaction. For a uniform magnetic field, we find the explicit form of the effective potential. It is found that the non-vanishing imaginary part develops for a magnetic field stronger than a critical field and has a quartic form which is quite different from the exponential form of the Schwinger process. We also…

Creation of neutral fermions with anomalous magnetic moments from a vacuum by inhomogeneous magnetic fields
- Physics
- 2013
A consistent nonperturbative approach (based on QFT) to neutral fermion creation (due to their magnetic moments) in strong inhomogeneous magnetic fields is considered. It is demonstrated that…
Vacuum instability due to the creation of neutral fermion with anomalous magnetic moment by magnetic-field inhomogeneities

We study neutral fermions pair creation with anomalous magnetic moment from the vacuum by time-independent magnetic-field inhomogeneity as an external background. We show that the problem is…

This paper is based on the elementary remark that the extraction of gauge invariant results from a formally gauge invariant theory is ensured if one employs methods of solution that involve only…
Neutron star dynamos and the origins of pulsar magnetism

Neutron star convection is a transient phenomenon and has an extremely high magnetic Reynolds number. In this sense, a neutron star dynamo is the quintessential fast dynamo. The convective motions…

Neutrino magnetic moment induced by leptoquarks

Allowing leptoquarks to interact with both right-handed and left-handed neutrinos (i.e., ``non-chiral'' leptoquarks), we show that a non-zero neutrino magnetic moment can arise naturally. Although…
Bare Quark Matter Surfaces of Strange Stars and e + e − Emission

We show that the Coulomb barrier at the quark surface of a hot strange star may be a powerful source of $e^+e^-$ pairs which are created in an extremely strong electric field of the barrier and flow…
Magnetic Moment of a Massive Neutrino and Neutrino-Spin Rotation
- Physics
- 1980
A massive Dirac neutrino has a magnetic moment, which causes its spin to precess in a magnetic field. This reduces the effective weak cross sections for relativistic neutrinos. An estimate on the…
