TLDR
Maternal facts as multiparity, abdominal childbirth, premature rupture of membranes and a gestational age of 24 to 30 weeks are associated with an increase in the probability of presenting newborn morbidity. Expand

INTRODUCTION: The more crucial moment in human life is that corresponding with the first 24 hr post-partum. During this period, morbidity and mortality are high, this it is necessary to prevent andExpand

Maternal risk factors and premature birth in a public hospital at west of Mexico
TLDR
The association of maternal risk factors with preterm birth requires more study with special design. Expand
Neonatal complications of term pregnancy: rates by gestational age increase in a continuous, not threshold, fashion.
TLDR
It is found that the rates of immediate neonatal morbidity increase with increasing gestational age, and these findings persisted when they were controlled for potential confounders in multivariate models. Expand
[Maternal anaemia: effect on the newborn].
TLDR
There is significant difference between the women having received iron during their pregnancy and those not supplemented as regards the effect on newborn (p = 0.00001).The prevention of iron deficiency and anaemia can be done by the iron systematic and premat supplementation. Expand
Clinical obstetric outcomes related to continuity in prenatal care.
TLDR
Continuity in prenatal care was associated with the observed increase in the number of prenatal visits, which in turn was shown to be a significant factor in the greater birth weights and maternal weight gain. Expand
[Risk factors for presence of complications of the mechanical ventilatory assistance in the newborn].
TLDR
It is concluded that newborn patients critically ill, with low birth weight, low gestational age, with RDS, who need more ventilatory support will be more liable to have complications and, as consequence, the mortality will be increased. Expand
MATERNAL, NEONATAL AND COMMUNITY FACTORS INFLUENCING NEONATAL MORTALITY IN BRAZIL
TLDR
Having a mother who lives in the highest developed community decreased the odds of neonatal death, suggesting that factors not measured in this study are behind such association, and may indicate that other factors over and above biological and more proximate factors could affect Neonatal death. Expand
Obstetric determinants of neonatal survival: antenatal predictors of neonatal survival and morbidity in extremely low birth weight infants.
TLDR
Fetal femur length and estimated gestational age predicted survival better than did biparietal diameter or estimated fetal weight and no tests accurately predicted neonatal morbidity in infants weighing </=1000 g at birth. Expand
Comparison of early-onset neonatal sepsis caused by Escherichia coli and group B Streptococcus.
TLDR
Comparing maternal characteristics and neonatal morbidity and mortality rates that are associated with early-onset neonatal sepsis that is caused by group B Streptococcus and Escherichia coli found E coli cases had a lower birth weight, a higher percentage with 5-minute Apgar score <7, and a longer stay in the hospital neonatal intensive care unit. Expand
The Apgar score has survived the test of time.
TLDR
A simple and clear classification of newborn infants is established which can be used to compare the results of obstetric practices, types of maternal pain relief and theresults of resuscitation. Expand
Incidence, risk factors of retinopathy of prematurity among very low birth weight infants in Singapore.
TLDR
It is suggested that both immaturity and compromised pulmonary function are both important aetiological factors in the development of ROP, and prevention of prematurity, control of preeclampsia, judicious use of ventilation and oxygen therapy are the only promising factors that may reduce the incidence and severity of Rop in this high-risk infant.
